Fairtrade Catering events in Welsh Schools

A number of Catering events are taking place throughout Wales to mark Fairtrade Fortnight

In Catering news this morning, thousands of schoolchildren in Wales are looking forward to eating a school meal from Fairtrade as part of Fairtrade fortnight.  The special school meal is going to be made up of only fairly traded ingredients.

The event will take place on the sixth of March across all primary schools in the North of Ceredigion.

As well as this to mark the fortnights events, Coca produers from Ghana will be at a schools conference  held at Penglias, Aberystwyth.

The Fairtrade activities don’t stop there in Wales, with Welshpool High School holding a range of Fairtrade activities over the next two weeks. The Catering manager Jane Williams is planning two Fairtrade meals, it’s also worth noting that the school already sells Fairtrade juice and cereal bars.

The Fairtrade Foundation is part of a trade justice movement that would like to see fundamental changes in trading relations between richer and poorer nations.
The amount British shoppers spend on Fairtrade products has been doubling every two years. In 2007 it amounted to more than £400 million in the UK.
