Chef Jobs - Preperation and Gaining Experience

There are a number of people who long to be a cook, some before they have even began one of the many Jobs in Catering. Sometimes people mistake Catering Jobs with Chef Jobs as they are not sure how to differentiate between the two roles.
There is a big difference between a Cook and a Chef, so you need to be aware of this if you are looking at Chef Jobs.

Usually to become a Chef, you begin as a cook, meaning that you are capable of and have experience of a Cooks role and work.  Usually a Chef and Cook will begin their Catering Career at the same starting point, right at the bottom.

To be a Chef, you will need managerial skills as they are some of the most important and required of all.  To be a successful Chef, you need to realise, but not be afraid of the complexities of the role.

To be a Chef, you will work your way up to the status of a Cook.  One your at this level you need to realise that the tasks get more difficult and the workload heavier. You can benefit greatly from this though if you don’t see it as a burden, instead see it as a chance to develop your skill set.

Along the long and winding road to becoming a Chef, you will meet and work with many people with the same ambitions as you.  Some may specialise in other areas, but you are likely to be able to learn or share your knowledge with them.
By sharing and learning from fellow cooks, you will be able to improve your skills and be ready to become a Chef.  Eventually you will learn all of the skills to be accomplished in the kitchen.

Being in the kitchen will also give you great experience at watching the various Chefs in action. If your able to develop your business and management skills, perhaps via a part time course, it could be a good idea for you to do.

If you’re working your way up to be a Chef or to apply for any of the Chef Jobs, work hard and you will develop the skills that are required to ensure that you are a great one.
